Control Engineering designs and manufactures bespoke protection and control panels for electricity distribution, transmission, generation and grid connection projects.
Our panels provide the equipment and interfaces required to protect, control, monitor and indicate the condition of transformers, switchgear and other electrical infrastructure.
Protection and Control Panels
Protection and Control Panel Types
- HV and LV transformer protection panels
- Transformer differential and backup protection panels
- Circuit-breaker protection and control panels
- Feeder protection panels
- Incomer and bus-section panels
- Busbar protection panels

Equipment is arranged to provide clear access for operation, testing, maintenance and future replacement.
Designed Around the Protection Scheme
Design considerations can include:
- Protection philosophy and relay functions
- CT and VT circuits
- Trip and close circuits
- Circuit-breaker control and indication
- Intertripping and interlocking
- AC and DC auxiliary supplies
- Alarm and event signals
- RTU and SCADA interfaces
- Communications requirements
- Test and isolation facilities
- Cable entry and terminal arrangements
- Panel dimensions and available space
- Customer and network operator standards
Where design is included, our engineering team can prepare general arrangement drawings, electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, terminal schedules and equipment schedules for customer approval.
Manufacture and Testing
Completed panels are inspected and tested before delivery. Depending on the agreed scope, testing can include:
- Visual and mechanical inspection
- Wiring and continuity checks
- Point-to-point checks
- Functional testing
- Control and indication checks
- Alarm and interface checks
- Customer factory acceptance testing
- Protection relay testing where specified
Any protection settings, relay programming or specialist testing requirements will be included only where agreed within the project scope.
Replacement and Retrofit Panels
This may include:
- Replacement protection and control panels
- Replacement panel fronts
- Relay upgrade and replacement assemblies
- New mounting plates and internal equipment
- Additional control or indication equipment
- Interfaces between new and existing systems
- Panels designed to fit an existing footprint
Existing drawings, photographs, equipment schedules and site dimensions can be reviewed to establish the requirements. A site survey can also be discussed where the available information is limited.
Project Documentation
- General arrangement drawings
- Electrical schematic diagrams
- Wiring diagrams
- Terminal schedules
- Cable and core termination information
- Equipment and label schedules
- Bills of materials
- Test documentation
- As-built drawings
